Pennsylvania Air Bag Failure Attorneys

Air bags are installed into vehicles to prevent our bodies from colliding with interior car parts such as the dashboard, steering column, doors and windshield. Unfortunately, air bags sometimes do more harm than good either by deploying with too much force, deploying without the occurrence of an accident, not deploying correctly or completely and not deploying at all during an accident. If any of these events occur, it is assumed that the air bags and/or the airbag system of the vehicle are defective.

Defective air bags can cause a number of injuries including:

  • Broken bones especially facial
  • Burns
  • Spinal injury
  • Neck injury
  • Brain injury
  • Internal injuries
  • Eye injuries
  • Miscarriage in pregnant women
  • Death

Airbag injuries can be minor or severe, depending on the strength of impact from the airbag and the situation in which the air bag deployed. Air bags are meant to act as a barrier between you and the interior parts of the car as well as to slow down or stop your movement within the vehicle during/after a crash. In the event of an accident, they are to deploy to protect you from slamming into the steering column, dash board or car doors. They are also meant to protect you from being ejected from the vehicle.

Air bags are a relatively new technology…first being introduced in the 1980’s. By model year 1998, all cars sold within the United States were required to come equipped with air bags. Since the first air bags, advancements have been made, but not enough. It is estimated that about 250 people die every year from air bag injury. By the year 2012 all vehicle manufacturers are required to equip their vehicles with new advanced air bags, as mandated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). As of this model year, no vehicle manufacturers have followed through, most likely to keep increasing their profits until absolutely necessary.
